Free Book Friday Sept 23: Interviews are back! In Conversation With: Lincee Tang

In Conversation With: Lincee Tang

The author of the worldwide best-selling book The Untold Tales of a Sailor at Sea invites you to look behind cruise ships doors in this extraordinary intimate and introspective adventure penned by artist Ms. Lincee Tang.

Today I have the pleasure of sitting down with author Lincee Tang. Can I offer you anything to drink?

Hello Leon, thank you for the kind offer for a beverage. Perhaps a cup of boiled hot water with a slice of fresh ginger or slice of fresh lemon. Thank you for this opportunity to chat with you. Always a pleasure to chat with a fellow author, artist, and musician.

You wrote a book about cruise ships. Would you consider your book autobiographical?

When I started writing my story, my genre of focus was autobiography. However, it turned out to be a publication that became multi-genre as worldwide vendors have chosen to categorize my book under adventure, thriller, drama, biography, religion, travel, memoirs, and even women’s studies.  I was quite surprised with this reception by the vendors as I never intended to target my book to fall under such a plethora of categories.

What was your role on the ship?

Over the many years in the cruise industry, I held several roles moving up within the ranks from Staff status to Officer status. I held a total of 10 different positions within several different cruise lines. Overall, my role on the ships was to entertain passengers in various capacities and to ensure the safety of every crew member within my department and passengers within my zone.

Cruise ships get a bad rap, from outbreaks of diseases, food poisoning, to really annoying guests. How would you, in one sentence, convince a naysayer to go on one?

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.” William Arthur Ward.  This is one of my favourite quotes and mantra I live by.

Have you ever watched Below Deck Sailing Yacht ?

I watched one episode, and it was enough. Below deck on a sailing yacht is nothing like life below deck on a cruise liner.

That’s good to know.
What authors influenced you?

As a young child, authors Carolyn Keene and Franklin Dixon had a significant impact on me as I grew up reading the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries.  Today, authors that influence me are ones that are further ahead and have proven themselves in the literary landscape. Such authors are an inspiration and beacon of light and hope for readers, writers, and authors as myself.

Do you have a favorite book?

As an ardent and avid reader, I have countless favourite books on my shelves. To name only one would do injustice.

I noticed a photo of a piano on your website. Do you play?

Yes, I started playing the piano since the age of four and have never stopped. I also play 6 other instruments.

Are you ready for the lightning round?

My whole life is a lightning round! LOL. Bring it on!

I like the enthusiasm.
Longest canal?
Grand Canal of course! Approximately 1100 miles in length while its greatest height is at 138 feet in the Shandong mountains of China. When I was in China, I did not have time to visit this canal.
Scariest animal?
I am not scared of any animal. I can’t think of one animal that scares me. If one is scared, I say stay away. I even once sat beside a porcupine and skunk.
Ever go across the International Date Line?
Several times I have crossed the international date line.
Favorite city?
Too many to list but off the top of my head, I will say that the following cities resonated deeply along my journey include: Venice, Barcelona, Cairo, and Istanbul.
The customer is always right. True or false?
False
Ah-ha! Thought so!
How many tries did it take me to spell ‘Yacht’?
You tell me.
Too many. I spelled it so bad even spellcheck didn’t know what I was going for.

This has been a pleasure. Thanks for chatting. Any links you want to share?

Thank you, Leon, for the chat.  Much appreciated!

Paperback news!

Is poetry best in paperback form? I think so.

Early review: “I don’t get it, but you wrote it so it must be good.” – Author’s Mom

The story behind Free Book Friday:

I’ve met many authors and readers during my time marketing, cross-promoting, and blogging. I think writers have a responsibility to inform readers about all the indie authors out there in the very crowded world of book publishing. You can’t do it alone, and why would you when you have a supportive group available?

Readers don’t just read one author – they stick with their favorite genres. There lies the power in cross-promotion. If one of my readers buys a book from an author I promote, then chances are there will be a reciprocal effect, or so is the hope. Do I want to boost sales? Of course I do. Do I want to boost other’s sales? Why not. It’s called karma.
