First it was Pi day (March 14) then the Weed day (April 20), now we have Star Wars day.
There is a great schism between the two major science fiction franchises. Battles at ComicCons all around the world on the premise that one is better than the other. And no, there is no right answer (yes there is). So in not particular order, here are some comparisons:
Star Wars
– Different galaxy so their history wasn’t dependent on ours
– Light speed obtained with a Hyper-drive
– Robots C3-P0 and R2-D2
– Han Solo – Lovable scoundrel Captain
– Wonderkin – Luke Skywalker
– Lots of aliens
– Blasters and light sabers
– The Millennium Falcon
– The Force
– All movies, not in chronological order
– Humor. Some good, some bad
Star Trek
– Our galaxy so any discrepancies were just solved by time travel creating alternate time lines
– Light speed obtained by warp-drive
– Lt.Cmdr Data
– Two great but different Captains – Kirk and Picard
– Wonderkin – Wesley Crusher
– Lots of aliens
– Phasers. No light sabers
– Enterprise (all of them, like 14 at least)
– Vulcan mind melds
– TV and movies, mostly in chronological order
– Humor. Some good, some bad
So there you go. And the final word: Only one of them came up with Jar-Jar Binks
Here’s a cartoon in celebration of the day:
