Thursday Thoughts: Yay, Sports!

Since the game was on late, I recorded it and watched it this morning as I drank my coffee.

I’m glad it wasn’t a blow out. With the two best teams playing each other, winning 3-2 is what should be expected.

When it comes to hockey, two rivalries come to mind Canada vs. United States, and Canada vs. Russia (this one more so for the men’s team). Starting in the 70s, Canada and Russia were the powerhouses of international men’s hockey, with both countries fighting for bragging rights. The secondary rivalry developed later with the US.

The main women’s hockey rivalry, in its three decades of existence, has always been against the US. Many of the opposing players are teammates in the US college programs as many Canadian athletes pursue their post-secondary education in the US because of recruitment and scholarships.

Back to the game. With so much talent and skill in both these teams, it was no wonder that it was one of the better games I have seen.

Congrats to Canada, The US, and Finland!
